Low testosterone (low T) or hypogonadism is much more common than most American men recognize. According to the American Urology Association, researchers predict that 2 in every 100 men have low T; however, some scientists assume the percentage will steeply incline in the next decade.

By the year 2025, scientists predict that 6.5 in every 100 American men between the ages of 30- 79 will have low T. This represents a 38% increase from the number of hypogonadal men in the year 2000.

As recent studies uncover and share more information about the prevalence of low T, the stigma the condition used to carry is fading.

At Renew Vitality, we believe that low T isn’t a reason for giving up on life, and it’s our mission to destigmatize the diagnosis, spread awareness about the condition, and support men through the process of living healthier and happier lives.

What is Low T?

Low T can be a stressful and confusing experience to navigate. Testosterone levels vary several times throughout a day and a lifetime. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), healthy T levels are between 300 – 1,000 ng/dL.

Activities like regular exercise, limiting stress, and eating a healthy balanced diet can boost and maintain healthy testosterone levels. Conversely, living a sedentary lifestyle, obesity, and certain medications drastically lower T levels.

Many men don’t realize how much alcohol affects T production. The occasional glass of wine after dinner or beer with friends won’t dramatically decrease T levels, but it’s easy to overdo it. In one study, researchers found that 2 or 3 drinks a day lower T levels by 6.8% after just three weeks.

Hormone experts are still uncovering the links between nutrition and hormone balances, but it’s safe to say what you eat does affect your hormone levels. One study found that soy-based products like tofu and edamame could lower T levels.

Certain plant-based foods contain phytoestrogens, which are compounds that mimic estrogen, the female sex hormone, and thus lower T levels in men.

The symptoms of low T include decreased libido, weight gain, loss in muscle tone, and irregular testicular and prostate size. Some men only experience a few of these symptoms, while others may experience others like hair loss, fatigue, and erectile dysfunction. Fortunately, testosterone replacement therapy has been proven to restore balance and treat the common symptoms of low T and other hormone deficiencies.

Finding Good Low Testosterone Treatment in Pearl River

With over 16,000 residents, Pearl River has become the second-largest hamlet in the state of New York. While the median age for adult men in New York is 38, Pearl River’s median age is approximately 10% higher, 42. There is no shortage of low testosterone treatment centers in the area, as recent numbers indicate there are over 100 clinics for men over 30.

While some cities don’t have nearly enough centers dedicated to men’s health and wellness, Pearl River residents have more than enough choices. However, an abundance of treatment centers comes with its own set of challenges. Men find it difficult to narrow down the pool to ensure they find a reputable clinic.

The American Urological Association (AUA) recently released guidelines about diagnosing low T and treatment measures after a startling finding. Some clinics were diagnosing patients and prescribing testosterone medication without first testing their patients.

It was reported that almost 50% of men currently receiving low T treatment did not have their hormone levels checked beforehand. Upon further research, they found that as many as one-third of the men in testosterone therapy did not actually meet the criteria for testosterone deficiency.

Before choosing a clinic, make sure that the clinic follows the AUA’s guidelines. They strongly recommend patients get at least one, preferably two, total testosterone measurements before diagnosis, preferably in the morning.

T levels fluctuate throughout a day, but taking specific measures like multiple testing on separate occasions in the morning will yield a more accurate reading. Avoid clinics that don’t require blood testing as part of the diagnostic process.

One of the key reasons Renew Vitality continues to be the nation’s leading provider in treating low T for men over 30 is because we have an incredibly thorough screening process. Not only do our physicians require a blood test 48 hours before the first consultation, but we also conduct follow up testing to make sure we are supplying the body with the optimum dose of medication.
